Educational Policy

The educational approach of this department emphasizes a firm grasp of the fundamentals over a large amount of technical knowledge, and it aims to equip promising researchers and engineers with a solid academic foundation that covers all the basics of engineering, as well as with rich conceptual, practical, and creative abilities, that allows them to apply their knowledge freely. More specifically, we design the program with lecture subjects, lab and training exercises, and seminar-based subjects, so that students can over time cultivate a deep understanding of physics, mathematics, and the basic principles of various kinds of dynamics, and through this process develop a strong intellectual ability, along with the abilities to think, apply, and create.

Furthermore, in managing curriculums, we have long implemented small-class instruction, and emphasized individual guidance through the use of seminars. In the future, we believe that progress and development in science and technology will become less linear and increasingly divergent and diverse. For this reason, it will be important to provide detailed guidance to students based on their individual characteristics. By conducting small seminars and individual research projects we aim to foster autonomy and enthusiasm, as well as develop the abilities to identify problems, define and plan tasks, execute the tasks, and solve the problems. Furthermore, we encourage the development of skills such as producing written and oral presentations, debating and discussion, and communicating in English. In addition to research, we place importance on international exchange. Thus, overall, we deliver a broad, well-rounded educational program.

We envisage that through this kind of education, students will also naturally cultivate skills such as strategic planning and management that they can apply to a wide range of professional occupations, including research and development, when they enter the workplace. We are confident that this training can produce highly self-dependent technical specialists who are capable of actively contributing to and driving the advancement of cutting-edge fields of engineering, including aeronautics and astronautics, and of flexibly tackling a wide range of real-world challenges, with creativity and leadership.
