Research Topics
We do the research for the intelligent control and system design for future aerospace systems by understanding their dynamics and applying the knowledge of animals' motion intelligence. They include the following research topics: the dynamics and control of aerospace systems, the control, intelligence, and system design by understanding their dynamics and the knowledge of animals' motion intelligence, to understand motion intelligence by observation and numerical simulation of flapping-of-wings behavior of butterflies, the intelligent control and autonomous skill learning for space robots and space exploration rovers, the dynamics and systems design for future spacecraft, e.g. solar power satellites, inflatable structures, etc.

Research Topics
Animals generate adaptive motions in diverse environments by cooperatively manipulating complicated and redundant musculoskeletal systems. Research themes include the investigation of the mechanism of such intelligent adaptive behaviors. Based on the findings, autonomous rovers are developed that establish high traverse ability, mobility, and robustness.

Research Topics
Living organisms need to move efficiently by adopting the appropriate strategy to the environment when they fly in air or when they swim under water. Flapping flight of butterflies, which is qualitatively different from favorable stable flight, is being investigated both numerically and experimentally from the viewpoint of fluid physics.
